Procedure covered by Medicare and funds.
PROCEDURES
- “Limited” to upper arm correction.
- “Extensive” – combined lateral/posterior chest wall and shoulder and upper arm correction.
“Limited” to upper arm
Liposuction only — “Fatty” Arms — A problem of fatty shoulders and/or arms with firm elastic sking and normal contour, but large arms. Fat is removed from adjacent back, side of chest wall shoulders and concentrically around arm to the elbow to an even thickness of 1 centimetre. Normal smooth contour is obtained with ideal skin shrinkage. Oeformed as a day only/GA admission 2 to 3 hour procedure, full recovery 3 to 4 days, firm elastic jacket is worn 3 days then shower. This procedure is called the Cast Procedure.
Bat Wings – problem is mainly loose skin hanging down from the underneath surface of the arm . Liposuction is performed, first concentrically around arms and shoulderss to 1 cm thickness then excessive skin of bat wing is excised, with skin tightening to give a normal contour. Incisional line concealed down posterior bordser of arms – fine scar. Performed in hospital overnight stay, general anaesthetic, elastic girdle 7 days, then shower.
Combination of 1 and 2 – Fatty arms with a variable amount of loose skin, performing extensive liposucction at first then allowing skin contracture to occur over four months. Then to consider whether excessive loose skin is present requiring excision, or no excess skin avoiding a scar. Elastic, non-sun damaged skin may contract well avoiding a scar.
Lockwood Procedure for “fallen” non existent armpit – incisional line in armpit. The armpit is lifted up and shaped to a normal appearance.

COMBINATION OF 1 AND 2
Combination of 1 and 2 Fatty arms with a variable amount of loose skin, performing extensive liposucction at first then allowing skin contracture to occur over four months. Then to consider whether excessive loose skin is present requiring excision, or no excess skin avoiding a scar. Elastic, non-sun damaged skin may contract well avoiding a scar.
Large fatty arms, skin thick and elastic, no sun damage.
Liposuction only. Massive skin contracture to give a normal contour.
“Extensive” procedure
This procedure combines “bat wing” excision on the upper arm with excision of excessive skin folds on the posterior and lateral chest wall. The long resultant incision passes along the posterior border of the upper arm, across the axilla then down the lateral chest wall to pass under the breast fold
Pre op showing incision line upper arm and across axilla.
Post op lateral chest wall excision of skin fold.
